Please welcome Damian Acosta as he will be a pitching coach for collegiate and HS teams this summer.
My name is Damian Acosta, currently the graduate assistant baseball coach at Texas A&M University- Kingsville; here is a little about myself and my background behind the game of baseball. I was born in Duarte, CA but moved and grew up in Round Rock, TX. I also attended Cedar Ridge High School where I played baseball all four years (3 years varsity). Out of high school I had received a scholarship to play at Garden City CC. As a freshman I appeared in eight games with two starts at pitcher. I had an ERA of 5.84 in 12.1 innings of work, struck out 11 batters while allowing 10 walks. As a sophomore Appeared in 11 games on the mound and had a 2-0 record with two saves, I Finished with an ERA of 3.14 in 14.1 innings pitched, recording 28 strikeouts and allowed eight walks. After completing my associate degree at Garden City, I was grateful to earn a scholarship from Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU). After playing with ENMU for the three seasons I was able to earn the team captain position. During my time at ENMU, I appeared in 33 games with 21 starts on the mound. I recorded 115.2 innings pitched in my career, with seven wins, one save, and 127 strikeouts. My senior season I had recorded a season best eight strikeouts in six innings pitched during an 8-6 win over Texas A&M International. I’m currently in thr ENMU record books for most strikeouts per nine innings (9.80). I first began my first coaching career in the summer 2022 with the Brownlee Lookouts 18U. I would take on the responsibility of our pitching staff, along with any in game adjustments or tendencies for our players who are going into the collegiate level. This required myself to develop more knowledge about the fundamentals of pitching. In the summer of 2023 I would receive a summer internship to work for Prospect Select. With Prospect Select I would be working doing data analytics for over 30,000 athletes, this technology was called FlightScope. This gave us information on pitchers spin rate, vert. break, Horz. break, release angle, etc. This information then would be sent out to all college coaches who are recruiting that specific player or wanting to pursue. Now currently at Texas A&M University- Kingsville as a Graduate Assistant Baseball Coach I work with our pitching staff. Here I work with the pitchers and I help them mentally and physically. I do this by helping them controlling the game and slowing it down, development of our pitchers arsenals, development of self awareness when it comes in-game situations.
